Mary Jane had always been a bit of a mystery herself. A former schoolteacher from back East, she had moved to Drygulch with her husband, a kind-hearted man named John, in search of a fresh start. They had settled on a small ranch just outside of town, where they raised their daughter, Jesse Jane.
