Set in a "near-future" 2018, the city’s most dangerous criminals are walled off in a housing project known as Brick Mansions. When a drug kingpin, Tremaine Alexander (), acquires a nuclear warhead, undercover cop Damien Collier ( Paul Walker ) must team up with Lino ( David Belle ), a local convict whose sister has been kidnapped, to infiltrate the zone and disarm the weapon. The Highlights

(2014) is a high-octane, stunt-heavy action film that serves as a bittersweet farewell to the late Paul Walker . A remake of the 2004 French hit District 13 , it trades the gritty realism of its predecessor for a glossy, stylized version of a dystopian Detroit.

Walker brings his signature "everyman hero" charm to the role. While he isn't a parkour expert, his physical commitment to the fight scenes and his chemistry with Belle keep the movie grounded.

The dialogue is often clunky and riddled with action-movie clichés. The social commentary regarding urban decay and government corruption is present but takes a distant back seat to the punching and jumping.

At times, the "shaky cam" and rapid-fire editing can obscure the impressive physical work of the actors. Fans of the original District 13 might find this version a bit too "Hollywoodized." The Verdict

is a solid, albeit predictable, action flick. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it succeeds as a showcase for incredible athleticism and a tribute to Paul Walker's legacy in the action genre. It’s best enjoyed if you turn off your brain and enjoy the literal leaps of faith. Rating: 3/5 Stars
