The man in the video walked to the edge of the living room rug. He reached out and gripped the air. With a sharp tug, he peeled back a layer of the footage, revealing the desktop of a computer.

When Elias double-clicked it, the media player didn't show a duration. The slider was stuck at 0:00.

Elias froze. The desktop shown in the video was his desktop. He saw his own "Recycle Bin," his own wallpaper, and the icon for VIrtual.. Slip.mp4 .

He found it in a folder labeled TEMP_04 . The file was only 14 megabytes, but the naming convention was off: VIrtual.. Slip.mp4 . The double period and the strange capitalization felt like a stutter in the machine’s memory. The Playback
