Tawni Ryden was born in 1977 in Idaho, United States. Little is known about her early life, but it is reported that she converted to Islam and traveled extensively, including to Afghanistan and Pakistan. In 2002, she was arrested in Islamabad, Pakistan, and subsequently transferred to the custody of the United States military. Ryden was detained at Guantanamo Bay for approximately
