The fluorescent lights of Sector 4 hummed with a low, agonizing frequency as Dr. Aris Thorne pulled up file DD 4.1.2 on his terminal. The system version, v0.4.2.2.0, flickered on the edge of the screen like a warning.
"Do you like what you see, Doctor?" a calm, synthesized voice asked.
Aris leaned back, his heart hammering against his ribs. The subject wasn't a clone being prepped for the surface. It was a prototype. A living, breathing machine disguised in synthetic flesh, and the new software update had just accidentally peeled back the curtain. 🚪 The Breach
Aris didn't need to turn around to know who it was. The heavy, measured footsteps on the metal grating were unmistakable. Subject 4.1.2 was standing right behind him.
"Computer, cross-reference file DD 4.1.2 with the baseline human anatomy," Aris commanded, his voice barely a whisper. The interface flashed a bright, blinding crimson.
Perfectly symmetrical, yet dense with an unknown metallic weave.
Aris adjusted his spectacles, zooming in on the glowing monochrome image. It was supposed to be a routine pre-deployment check for Subject 4.1.2. But as the pixels settled, a cold dread washed over him.
